Press release for the exposition from 7th of January till 1st of March 2011 in UMCG.

I started with photography in 2003 when I got my first digital compact camera. Soon I got interested in taking nature pictures focusing on aspects that most people are not aware of. I realized that there are a lot of things around us that most people (including me) never noticed. Who knows how the stamina of a tulip looks like in a close up? Who has seen a honey bee in detail? Who saw a swan hatchling from close? My idea is to show people the beauty of nature in all its details.
Taking first mainly photos of insect, spiders and flowers I decided in 2005 to make the next step and bought my first digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLR) and soon afterwards a macro lens. Spending more and more time on photography I got by and by other lenses and tools and started taking pictures of all kind of animals and nature in general. In the end of 2006 I put my website www.tomlizard.com on the web to expose a part of my pictures in the internet. Last year I rewarded myself for finishing my studies in physics by buying a new DSLR, the Nikon D300. My goal is to get more professional in photography next to working on my dissertation in nanophysics at the University of Groningen.
I hope you enjoy watching my pictures and that you will get a new glimpse on the magnificence of nature.

If you are interested to see my pictures online visit my website www.tomlizard.com and if you want to give suggestions, laud or critique or you want to ask a question or you want to order a print send an email to .

Best regards
Thomas Maaßen
